Limited Lifetime Warranty

Shun cutlery carries a Limited Lifetime Warranty for the lifetime of the original owner, unless otherwise stated.

We guarantee our knives against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship and that they will perform as advertised when properly used and maintained.

This warranty is:

  • Valid only for the original purchaser

  • Non-transferable

  • Applicable to products purchased in Australia

Any product determined to be defective will be repaired or replaced at our sole discretion.


What Is Covered

  • Manufacturing defects in blade steel

  • Defects in construction or assembly

  • Faults in handle materials

All warranty claims require inspection by Hale Imports Pty Ltd at our Frenchs Forest, NSW headquarters before approval.


What Is Not Covered

The Limited Lifetime Warranty does not extend to:

  • Normal wear and tear

  • Surface scratches or cosmetic ageing

  • Rust resulting from improper care

  • Damage or breakage caused by misuse

  • Improper maintenance

  • Accidents

  • Loss or theft

  • Products modified in any way

The Shun logo is not covered under warranty.

Hale Imports Pty Ltd reserves the right to determine what constitutes normal wear, misuse, improper maintenance, or modification.


Proper Use & Safety Disclaimer

Shun knives are precision culinary instruments, designed exclusively for legitimate kitchen use.

They are intended for cutting purposes only.

Use on bones, frozen foods, or extremely thick-skinned produce may cause damage and is considered misuse.

For heavier kitchen tasks such as breaking down poultry or cutting dense vegetables like pumpkin or melon, we recommend using purpose-built models such as:

  • Shun Classic Meat Cleaver DM0767

  • Shun Classic 8in Western Chef's Knife DM0766

Use for stabbing, prying, twisting, or piercing is considered misuse and will void your warranty.

Knives are extremely sharp tools and must be handled with care.
Shun Australia T/A Hale Imports Pty Ltd is not responsible for injury or damage resulting from misuse or abuse.


Legal Responsibility

Knife ownership and use are subject to local laws and regulations, which vary by location and may change over time.

It is the responsibility of the purchaser to understand and comply with the laws applicable in their area. Shun Australia T/A Hale Imports Pty Ltd accepts no liability for breaches of such laws.

No warranties are implied or expressed other than those specifically stated here.


Returns Policy

If you wish to return an item, please contact us with:

  • Your order number

  • Product details

  • Reason for return

We will provide instructions for returning your item.

If you believe your product is faulty, please notify us within 7 days of receipt.

If a product is confirmed faulty following inspection, it will be repaired or replaced in accordance with ACCC guidelines.

Packing Your Knife for Warranty Service

Even a dull blade can cause injury if improperly packed. Please ensure your knife is prepared safely before shipping.

1. Wrap Individually

If your knife has a sheath, secure it in place.
If not, wrap the blade fully in multiple layers of paper or bubble wrap, ensuring the tip is protected.

If returning multiple knives, wrap each separately.

2. Cushion Securely

Line the bottom of your box with protective material.
Place the wrapped knife inside and surround it with additional cushioning to prevent movement.

3. Include Documentation

Insert your completed Warranty/Service Form inside the parcel and retain a copy for your records.

4. Seal Carefully

Tape the carton securely according to postal recommendations.

Original product boxes sent with warranty returns will not be returned and may be recycled.


Wood Accessories – 90 Day Warranty

Shun wood accessories are crafted from natural materials and will develop character over time. This is not considered a defect.

Wood accessories are covered by a 90-Day Warranty against manufacturing defects only.


Limited Edition Knives

Limited Edition Shun knives are covered under our warranty. However, due to limited availability, a direct replacement may not be possible.

If a manufacturing defect is confirmed and a replacement is unavailable, a voucher equal to the value of the knife (or lesser value product selection) will be issued for use on available Shun products.


Customers Outside Australia

Warranty and sharpening services are available only to customers who purchased their Shun products in Australia.
